If you have been dying to see older comic book covers, a partial collection of comic book covers can be found at Coverbrowser.com. The site is plain, but the wealth of some of the older comic book covers is a great tool to have handy.

It is always good to have a reference work when trying to work out the value of older comics. While the Overstreet guide and the Comic book pricing guide are great, sometimes you need a picture better than a thumbnail, and for those comics Cover browser makes a great tool to have. On their about page they state:

Created in 2006, Cover Browser displays galleries of comic book (and book, pulp, games, DVD or magazine) covers for comic book fans like myself to explore & enjoy (there’s also links to buy comics). At the moment, there are 290,373 covers from 2,499 different series available. Most of the covers and associated data have been assembled using the nice Yahoo Image API, eBay, the Google Web Search API, the Amazon API, the Yahoo Term Extraction API, different homemade crawlers, and manual sorting. I’m also working with collections you send in or homemade scans. Source: Coverbrowser.com

In all this makes for an interesting collection of covers ranging from some of the 1930’s and 40’s pulp, to more modern covers like tarot, witch of the black rose. They are also looking for good quality comic book cover scans, which we have been sharing over on friendfeed’s comic book goodness room and on our own picture site, (we have over 1500 covers that need to be uploaded to the picture site). As a reference, or even as a cultural curiosity, this is a great site to go visit and spend a lot of time browsing. The bonus to this, no ads, you know this is a labor of love and that this person just really loves comic books.
