Tarot Witch of the Black Rose comic book review

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose is a comic book is one of the best alternative horror Goth comics on the market today. Written and drawn by Jim Balent with coloring and lettering by Holly Golightly. The comic book is published by Broadsword Comics.

Tarot Witch of the Black Rose a story about witches, and there is nothing like “Charmed” anywhere in the story line. Tarot rather is the story of a family, Tarot who is a warrior witch, her sister Raven, their mother, and the various other members of the family, friends and lovers. The comic generally features stories of fantasy action and adventure interspersed with frequent scenes of nudity. As well as the comic narrative, each issue is backed up with interviews with “actual” witches and Wiccan practitioners, and advertisements for “real-life” spells and potions.

This is an easier comic book to find and can be found on EBay or Amazon, but rarely in the corner comic book store. You can also purchase this comic book directly from Broadsword comics as well. Tarot is one of the more interesting comic books, and has a dedicated following of readers that have allowed the comic book to be in print since 1999.

Tarot is the swordmaiden of the Black Rose Coven, and as such is often involved in many of the punitive or protective fights that the coven has across hell and across the various demons or other nasty bits of critters that they encounter throughout the entire series. Tarot takes her job very seriously and has survived many battles and many setups often not by fighting but by outlasting and outwitting her tormenters. Her sister Raven Hex is a much darker character that wants to create a world just for witches. Raven Hex is very militant about creating a world just for witches, and has managed to raise an island just for witches, and dragons. The other main character is Jon Webb, who is Tarots Lover, ally and the grounds keeper for an abandoned cemetery. He can summon and make corporeal the dead, which also comes in handy when something is happening and everyone needs help.
Filled with mayhem and violence, it is an interesting story line of Wicca, sex, magic, and the problems of being a coven in hell. This is an award winning series that has both regular and collector’s covers and Trade Paper Backs. This is well worth adding to your collection of comic books, if you are in the horror alternative scene.
