Hack Slash Omnibus Volume 2 is just a good clean campy B-Horror movie read where Cassie and Vlad continue with the mayhem that started in Volume 1. Throughout the Hack Slash series, the premise is that the one survivor takes the battle to those who would do the general mayhem and killing. Volume 2 collects the first 14 issues of hack slash as well as the annual and other miscellaneous materials together into one awesome B-Movie horror fest in style. Overall, the art is good, the writing is good, and the story lines make sense, which can be an issue when it comes to collecting and putting together an omnibus for a comic book series.
Some of the villains in the series are Acid Washed and Father Wrath and includes Cassie’s first encounter with Georgia, who is just simply a nasty character. Acid Washed and Father Wrath are ok as villains, but like all villains, you know how this is going to end, bloody and in small chunks. The windup and the pitch on the final battles with the villains is well laid out and well drawn. This is definitely B-Movie style material, lots of camp, lots of mayhem and lots of gore to settle out on the pages of the book. This is a very large book and will take days to read, but I found myself laughing at some of this wondering if I was supposed to suspend everything, much like watching many of the older 80’s slasher movies. Good fun, and definitely rated 5 of 5 stars just because the whole rocks. Quite simply one of the best omnibus versions I have read in a while for comic books. This book is well worth adding to your collection and having a grin over.
