This is the debut effort of Stephanie Sanderson Heike and Mark G. Heike with the comic book series 21rst Centurions. The story line starts off with a similar earth that we are all used too, except that in 1947 a nuclear bomb goes off in the same city that a group of super heroes just happens to be living in. Not many of the super heroes lived through the nuclear blast, meaning we have to fast forward to present time. The city has been rebuilt and is a beautiful metropolis filled with high tech buildings and new technologies that have been transforming the world for the better. The super heroes who survived decided that it would be more fun to ditch the capes and tights and start going for nice haircuts, trendy clothes and watching their media image. Being a super hero is big business, and not something that a super hero will let slide because the value of their trademarks and names would be hit. Going after bad guys for real just does not fit the image.
In comes the 21rst Centurions, Ariel and Donna, beautiful teenagers who have been raised to use bleeding edge technology and gadgets to simulate super powers so that they can take on bad guys, and do they ever. Fighting evil? That is for the kids Ariel and Donna, while their camera happy mentor is more than happy to dispense advice and take credit. But what about the other super heroes and how do they fit into the bigger story? That is the mystery of the story line, and what makes the comic well worth reading.
Overall rated 5 of 5 stars – well worth picking up and reading. Fast paced, good art work and production, one of the better independent comics out there.
