India Authentic Trade Paper Back

scan0238If you love Indian Mythology then you cannot beat Deepak Chopra’s India Authentic TPB’s as a way to get your graphic novel fix on what Indian Mythology is like. This is a riveting book especially for people who were raised on the standard Greek mythology that we all had throughout our educational experience. We are used to seeing Gods from one perspective, seeing India’s gods in their full comic book glory is not something to be passed up. It does not matter how true to the story line they are, Gods are Gods everywhere, and this book really covers how India’s Gods, the many of them that there are interacted with each other. Overall this is a fascinating Trade Paper Back, and not one to be missed.

Originally these started out as One Shot comics covering each of the Gods, like Kali, Genesha, and others retelling the iconic and deeply cherished stories and legends of India’s Gods. Written with Surav Mohapatra (you can see his web site here) the story line and the art are not to be missed. You get a very real sense of the gods, their appearance, and their personalities out of the TPB’s. There are a number of them available now, along with the comic book series. What is nice is seeing the new talent and new writers being brought in to tell stories from a perspective that is not often seen in comic books. As myths evolve, they still tell us what we should aspire to as a hero, and what we should not aspire to as the villain. That is what makes the comics so interesting; we get a different perspective on what it is to be a hero and what it is to be a villain through the lens of the Indian Culture. We also find that the idea of good and bad is not so far off from the standard western culture as we learned through Greek mythology. The series and the trades are part of who we aspire to, and who we often find ourselves being.

The entire series is a 5 of 5 star series and worth picking up and reading. Especially if you are interested in the story lines of Gods, Goddesses, and general mayhem that this can create for regular folks. These books are worth picking up, and defiantly worth keeping around.
